The new “Farm Essentials” line from K&H Manufacturing has “reinvented the wheel” when it comes to keeping fresh water available in the winter. Every K&H de‐icer is safe in all stock tanks, unlike nearly all of the other de‐icers available in the market today. No expensive shrouds or cages need be purchased either. Every one of our de‐icers can be used as a floating de‐icer out of the box or in seconds converts to a submersible de‐icer with the click of a button! In the past, all that was readily available were energy gulping 1000 watt to 1500 watt de‐icers; Customers had no choice but to purchase these expensive to run de‐icers, even when they didn’t need it. We’ve solved this problem by creating a whole line of de‐icers along with a convenient zone chart for consumers to choose the correct de‐icer, every time! A free cord safety clip is also included with every de‐icer. This ingenious clip secures the de‐icer to the edge of the stock tank, bucket or container to help prevent chewing, cribbing or removal of the de‐icer from the tank. When it comes to fresh water, K&H Farm Essentials is the choice that makes cents.

Product Q&A

Product-Specific Questions

How do I determine which wattage model I need?

To determine the proper wattage for your tank size and climate, please consult our Zone Chart.

What happens if I use a higher wattage deicer than needed in my stock tank?

The deicers are thermostatically controlled. This means, as long as you purchased the minimum wattage required for your zone and tank size, they will work fine.

Keep in mind that higher wattage models will use more electricity than the lower wattage models. For example, the 750 watt deicer will use three times the amount of electricity when running versus the 250 watt deicer.

There is a piece of Styrofoam in the ring. Do I leave it in?

The styrofoam is part of the float ring. To use this product as a floating de-icer, leave the float ring attached. To use it as a submersed de-icer, simply unscrew and remove the float ring.

Does this heater turn itself off and on with the ambient temperature? Or, should we consider also purchasing a plug with a thermostat?

You do not need to purchase a plug with a thermostat. Our Ultimate Stock Tank De-Icer units are thermostatically controlled to keep the average water temperature just above freezing. They feature internal thermostats and will turn on and off as necessary to prevent the tank water from freezing.

Can I used multiple de-icers for a large stock tank?

Yes, you can use multiple de-icers. As long as you spread them out away from each other to provide even coverage, this solution should work.

General Questions about Outdoor Heated Products

How long is the cord?

The cord is 5.5 feet long.

Can I use an extension cord with this product?

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.

Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application. For more information on MET safety testing, please visit their website at www.metlabs.com.

How long can a heated product be plugged in?

MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the product if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards. For more information, please visit www.metlabs.com.

Is there an off/on switch?

There is not an off/on switch. It is always on when plugged in.
