   I bought a Thermo-Pond cone heater 5 years ago, and and very pleased with it. It only uses 100 watts an still keeps an opening in the ice even after a foot of snow.
   
   This heater vents the gasses that get trapped under ice and works fine for non koi fish. The koi need a bigger melted opening
   
   
   I'm getting another for a smaller upper filtering pond. this will vent that one for the smaller comets in there to eat mosquitoes, and will turn the area around the heater into a bird watering hole for the season. (Posted on 12/13/11)
