  1. Feral cats love it -- wish it had a longer cord! Review by Cathy

I have one aging feral cat who has a winter shelter on my back deck. She's been walking a little more stiffly these days, so I thought some warmth might perk her old bones up. I chose not to use the included fleece cover as we use straw in her shelter for bedding. I put the pad in the shelter under the straw and she loves it. The only downside I have found to this product so far is that the cord is too short and the instructions say not to use an extension cord. Feral cats prefer to be well away from humans, yet my outdoor outlet is right near the back door. I had to move her house closer to the door, which means we might spook her a bit more, but I am guessing the warmth will keep her coming back!

    ***K&H Comment on this post:
As long as you use a heavy duty, UL listed, outdoor rated cord it is perfectly safe. K&H does not advise using straw in conjunction with any electrical or heated products.*** (Posted on 2/7/10)

  2. A Life Saver For Sure Review by Mike

A few years ago, a stray female cat delivered a litter in our back yard. After learning about the local animal control policy on unclaimed cats - and after many unsuccessful attempts to find them a home - we decided to maintain and care for the cats ourselves. During the winter, our three cats spend their cold nights (and days) in a modular-style shelter we created which includes three of these heated Kitty Pads. We are now well into our third winter with our "outside cats," and I can honestly say that I'm not sure our trio would have survived without the warmth provided by these heated pads - especially at night. We have had one pad fail during the warranty period, but it was quickly replaced by the manufacturer. Overall, I give this product my highest recommendation - BUY IT. For outside cats in winter, it can make all the difference. (Posted on 1/5/10)

  4. Absolutely Purrfect for Homeless kitties Review by Julie

We purchased our first pad as part of a Cat House we bought at Blythe Woodworks (they prep the cat house to fit the pad so that the cord comes out the back of the house). With winter fast approaching Massachusetts we are preparing shelters for a few homeless cats. Janice was the first to try one out and she LOVES it--day and night-- as we have had many nights into the 20's. The pad is extremely well made, durable and safe. After I finish the review I am ordering at least 2 more from Amazon (great price!!) You can get fleece blankets and cut them up to cover the pad if you don't want to purchase exact fit covers. Thank you K&H! (Posted on 11/23/09)

I reviewed this product on Amazon but want to reiterate here that this is a truly great product and essential for those of us looking out for ferals and visiting outdoor kitties. I've had my heated kitty pad for a few years now and it's still working perfectly. It should be used as part of a good shelter that blocks wind and rain/snow.

Buying a new cover is easy -- you can get them online and even at some PetsMart stores. (Posted on 9/19/09)

  6. Marty is thrilled Review by JeanneEliz

My outdoor cat LOVED his heated kitty pad! He spent his entire time snuggled up on it. When summer came I hated to take it away from him, but told him it was just for a few months. I'm hoping, however, that I can purchase a new cover because the old one was hopelessly covered with cat hair and impossible to wash. (Posted on 9/15/09)

  7. Very good for ferral cats Review by Phil

I have a ferral cat that I attend to. This product has literally saved her life in the cold. After a few days of avoiding the mat, she learned that it emitted warmth. She has remained glued to it. I have used a heavy-duty extension cord with no problem. You will have to determine how to run the cord unobtrusively. Also, I run the cord under a door that I don't use much. Otherwise, you will damage the bottom of your door. An outdoor outlet would be better. You want to obtain an extra cover, so that you can wash the original from time to time. (Posted on 1/10/09)
