Overview

Details

Following in the footsteps of the ultra-successful Original Lectro-Kennel Heated Pad, the K&H Igloo Style Heated Pad offers all of the same features in a form factor designed specifically for pet igloo shelters. Its half-round shape easily fits through the door of igloo homes and allows pets to rest on or off the heated surface. A rugged ABS plastic exterior and 5.5 foot steel-wrapped cord help protect the pad from damage.

A Custom Fit

We've modified the design of our Original Lectro-Kennel Heated Pad to fit the unique shape of Dogloo®, Indigo®, and other igloo-style pet houses. The special half-round shape covers half the floor of an igloo shelter, allowing pets to choose whether to rest on or off the heated surface.

Energy Efficiency

Keep your outdoor dog or cat toasty warm without breaking the bank on electric bills. Starting at just 40 watts, each size Igloo-Style Heated Pad operates efficiently and uses very little electricity.

Automatic Temperature Control

Pre-set internal thermostats automatically monitor the surface temperature to keep a dog or cat warm and comfortable. K&H outdoor pads are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature of 102°F when he/she lies on the pad. When your pet is not on the pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

Plug in the Igloo-Style Heated Pad and it will automatically warm on its own. There is no on/off switch to worry about and the pad will never exceed the natural body temperature of a dog or cat.

Choose Your Size

We offer this special heated pad in several sizes to accommodate most pet igloos. Choose a size that's slightly smaller than your igloo for a proper fit.

  • Small: 11.5" L x 18" W
  • Medium: 14.5" L x 24" W
  • Large: 17.5" L x 30" W

Washable Cover

Use the Igloo-Style Heated Pad with or without the included fleece cover. Its washable, soft weave allows the pad's warmth to radiate through to your pet whereas a blanket or any other cover would trap the heat inside the pad, possibly causing a malfunction.

There's also a Deluxe Igloo-Style Heated Pad Cover available as a separate purchase. A zipper closure keeps the cover in place and the entire cover has a more upscale feel.

Safety-Tested

The K&H Igloo-Style Heated Pad has been tested rigorously and certified by MET Labs. Their certification means this product adheres to strict electrical safety standards.

Care & Instructions

Usage Instructions

1

Place the Igloo-Style Heated Pad directly on a hard, flat surface in your home or inside a doghouse or kennel. The area chosen should be sheltered from direct rain or snow.

2

Plug into 110-120 volt AC outlet. Allow 1-2 hours for the heated pad to warm. The unit will feel slightly warm to the touch. When an animal lies on the pad, it will reach a maximum temperature of approximately 102°F. The built-in thermostat will automatically regulate the temperature.

3

After initial warm-up, your Igloo Style Heated Pad will feel cooler to the touch. This is the intention for energy efficiency. When your pet lies on the bed, it will warm to a comfortable temperature in even the coldest of weather.

Washing Icon

Cleaning Instructions

Wash the faux fleece cover on the gentle cycle with cold water, then line dry.

The heated pad can be cleaned using a damp towel or sponge and mild dish washing detergent. DO NOT wash in a washing machine.

Testing Your Igloo-Style Heated Pad

You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot. DO NOT use an extension cord during this test. DO NOT place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) any other time. This should only be done during testing.

Cord Placement

To avoid giving your dog easy access to play with the cord, we recommend drilling a hole to run it out the back of the shelter. Use a 1 1/4" spade drill bit to drill a hole close to the base and push the plug and cord through from the inside.

Product Q&A

Product-Specific Questions

Does the Igloo Style Heated Pad use a lot of energy when plugged in? I'm worried about high electricity costs.

Depending on size, the Lectro-Soft only uses only 40, 60, or 80 watts. It's an energy efficient product that consumes very little electricity.

General Questions about Outdoor Heated Beds

What temperature will an outdoor heated bed or pad reach?

K&H outdoor beds and pads are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature of 102°F when he/she lies on the bed or pad. When your pet is not on the bed or pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

Are your heated beds and pads pressure sensitive?

Our beds and pads are NOT pressure sensitive. All K&H heated beds and pads feature dual thermostats and are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature when he/she lies on the pad. This is a function of the insulation provided by a pet’s body, not the weight of the pet.

K&H beds and pads will emit heat anytime they are plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. When your pet is not on the pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

I see that each size has a different wattage. How does that translate to the actual heating temperature?

All of our heated products are thermostatically controlled to heat to 102°F, regardless of the size. The variation in wattage is directly related to the size and the wattage necessary to heat that size bed to 102°F.

How long is the cord?

The cord is 5.5 feet long.

Can I use an extension cord with this product?

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.

Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application. For more information on MET safety testing, please visit their website at www.metlabs.com.

How long can a heated bed or pad be plugged in?

MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards. For more information, please visit www.metlabs.com.

Is there an off/on switch?

There is not an off/on switch. The pad is always on when plugged in.

Is placing an additional blanket or towel on top of the heated bed or pad recommended?

You never want to place anything on top of a K&H outdoor bed or pad other than the cover provided. This cover allows the warmth to go through whereas a blanket or any other cover will trap the heat inside the bed or pad, possibly causing a malfunction.

Can you place an outdoor heated bed or pad on top of another pet bed or blanket for extra cushioning?

Outdoor heated pet beds and pads should be placed on a flat, stable surface rather than on top of a bed or blanket.

Are K&H outdoor heated beds and pads waterproof?

Our outdoor heated beds and pads are water-resistant. We understand that pets collect snow and water from being outdoors. Our products are designed to be used safely with pets, even when the pet is water-soaked.

Please make sure to place the bed or pad in a relatively dry area such as a covered porch, garage, kennel or dog house. The bed or pad should not be placed where there is a potential for standing water from heavy rain and the product should not be immersed in water.

Can I place an outdoor heated bed or pad on the ceiling of a kennel in order to offer heat from above?

Our heated beds require direct contact with an animal's body and do not provide radiant heat. For these reasons, we only recommend placing a heated bed or pad on the floor or sidewall where the dog’s body will come in direct contact with the product.

Is it safe to use this without the cover?

Yes, you can use K&H outdoor heated beds and pads with or without the included cover.

For a garage, would you advise an indoor or outdoor heated product?

For a garage, we recommend an outdoor heated product. They have the features necessary to ensure your pet stays warm in even the coldest of temperatures.
